We are not against the use of medicines for children with autism, in fact we feel they are often necessary.  However, since about 70% of those on the autism spectrum may have a painful, inflammatory condition in their GI tract causing much of their aggression, irritability, night awakenings and constipation, we suspect these medicines are being used to suppress symptoms, and aren't really healing the true problems.    When we see Miralax, Clonidine and Risperdal as the only treatment for a child with autism, we jokingly call them the "unholy three"!

The STARS! ^TM Basic Treatment Protocol is one of the first treatments that we use at The Autism Recovery Resource Center for patients with constipation/diarrhea, aggression and disturbed sleep patterns, and who usually show up on the medications listed above. We get positive results in about 3 out of 4 patients that try this.
